Nowgen to develop more activities and resources for young people in the area of genetic medicine

Nowgen’s Public Engagement Team will develop more activities and resources for young people in the area of genetic medicine following recent funding successes. A BRC Training Fellow will investigate the information needs of young people entering clinical trials; Alisha Gibson will complete her PhD over the next three years as she runs focus groups to understand young people’s needs and will create a new resource in the form of a DVD to help teenagers invited to join clinical trials. The Wellcome Trust has funded Nowgen – in partnership with Lime Arts – to develop an educational arts package with young people about gene therapy for cystic fibrosis. Additional funding from the Wellcome Trust was also granted to extend Nowgen’s Question of Taste workshops – which examine aspects of human and chimp evolution – for A-level students beyond the summer of 2010.
